Caroline Jonsson named new E.H.C. Alliance Managing Director
GOTHENBURG, Sweden – Caroline Jonsson has been named as the new Managing Director of the Alliance of European Hockey Clubs (E.H.C.) by a unanimous E.H.C. Board decision. Jonsson, the E.H.C.’s Project Manager, Marketing and Events from 2021, will assume the new position on 1 November 2024, succeeding Szymon Szemberg, who has been the Managing Director since the E.H.C.’s founding in 2016.
“When Szymon informed the Board in August 2022 that he would like to pursue other opportunities, our Board’s recruitment group has had time to do proper due diligence and at the extraordinary board meeting last week the board members were unanimous behind the decision to name Caroline Jonsson as our new MD,” said E.H.C. President Marc Lüthi.
“I am very excited for this and I would like to thank the E.H.C. board and its recruitment group for entrusting me with this opportunity,” said Caroline Jonsson. “The Alliance has come a long way since it started nine years ago and I am committed to continue with the mission to look after the interests of Europe´s professional hockey clubs, who are the engine of European hockey.”
Caroline Jonsson has an MBA from Sydney Business School and a Diploma in Sports Marketing. She has, aside from her manager’s duties with the E.H.C., been involved in various event roles in different IIHF World Championships and also in Champions Hockey League events.
“This is excellent news for the E.H.C. and for European hockey,” said Managing Director Szymon Szemberg, who will remain in this role until the conclusion of the 2024 E.H.C. Hockey Business Forum in Munich this fall. “Caroline is one of the most committed hockey people that I have known, with a network in the hockey and sporting industry that is second to none. Caroline has already started to expand the E.H.C. to also include women’s hockey issues, which will bring yet another dimension to the organization. Caroline will have my full support during the transition period leading up to her assuming the new position.”
