Introducing the Glasgow Clan

Formally launched at a press conference today in Glasgow, the Elite Ice Hockey League team and E.H.C. Alliance member formerly known as the Braehead Clan has rebranded itself as the Glasgow Clan. Along with the name change comes a new logo.

In a press release issued by the club, Clan Hockey & Operations Director Gareth Chalmers commented: “We are absolutely delighted to announce the Club will re-brand from the Braehead Clan to the Glasgow Clan ahead of the upcoming 2018/19 Season."

“Since our inception in 2010, the growth of the Clan on and off the ice has been phenomenal. From attendances of 800 at Braehead Arena in our inaugural season to attendances of over 3,000+ fans that we are now achieving, the West of Scotland continues to support the sport in the Elite Ice Hockey League.

“While the Clan will always be synonymous with the Braehead name, we feel it’s now time to incorporate one the UK’s biggest cities into the organisation's future, which we believe will further enhance our corporate partnerships, community engagement programme and player recruitment process heading forward.

“It is a natural progression to incorporate Glasgow into the name, which will ultimately help us maximise the brand and growth even further.

“While we are moving away from the Braehead name, our relationship with intu Braehead and Braehead Arena remains paramount to our future plans. Being associated with such a reputable brand has been very beneficial to the Club over the past eight seasons, so I am delighted to confirm that intu Braehead will remain as the Club’s lead jersey sponsor during the 2018/19 season.

“I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the re-branding, we are delighted with the end product and feel honoured to be the Glasgow Clan.”

General manager at intu Braehead Leisure, Scott Martin said: “I’m sure Glasgow Clan will go from strength to strength as their home rink in The Arena at intu Braehead provides the team and their fans with the biggest and best ice facility in Scotland for playing and watching professional ice hockey."

“This is a big day for hockey in Glasgow, Scotland, Great Britain and for the Elite Ice Hockey League,” says Szymon Szemberg, Managing Director of the E.H.C. Alliance. “The rebranding shows that ice hockey in Britain is moving from the outskirts into the big towns and cities and that the British fans are ready to embrace ice hockey on a bigger stage. The E.H.C. Alliance is proud to have the Glasgow Clan as one of our 81 members across Europe.”
